Public Security workshop on combating human trafficking and protection of migrant workers

On October 23rd,Tamkeen Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate conducted a workshop entitled "Combating Trafficking in Persons and Protection of Migrant workers". The workshop had 26 participants from various Public Security units and was presented by experts in the field.
The workshop covered the following topics:
Definition of Trafficking in persons with regard to international law, and national and international types of Trafficking- Dr. Muhannad Dwaikat
* The concept of Trafficking
* Identifying victims
* Reasons for Trafficking
* Techniques used for Trafficking in persons
* Penalties
Migrant workers' entitlements and responsibilities in international law and Jordanian legislation – Mr. Hamoudeh Abo Nejmeh
* Conventions and recommendations of the International Labour Organization
* The meaning and ramifications of ratifying international convention
* Jordan's level of commitment to international conventions and recommendations
Distinction between trafficking in persons and other types of crimes
* Illegal social practices such as the confiscation of passports
* The distinction between trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants
* Organ trafficking
An address on interview techniques for trafficking victims; the topic of victim identification and treatment in practice- Dr. Muhannad Dwaikat
* Techniques for interviewing victims of human trafficking
* Finding the appropriate place for the interview
* The basic elements of the interview process (planning- explanation- analyses- result- evaluation)
At the end of the workshop, Dr. Muhannad Dwaikat presented various cases about trafficking in persons for discussion and analysis.
