Training Course for Judges and Lawyers

Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights conducted a three-day training on migrants rights and trafficking for twenty judges and lawyers from 1st – 3rd October 2011. The sessions were presented by five different trainers, each an expert in their field.
* Dr Mohammed Almousa opened the training on the first day by giving an overview of Jordanian legislation vis-à-vis international law.
* Dr Yousef Aldaradkeh went on to speak about migrants' rights and discussed violations of those rights occurring in practice in Jordan today.
* Dr Almousa introduced the first working session of the training which asked attendees to discuss migrants' rights in national and international law.
The second day focused on trafficking.
* Dr Hasan Alabdallat gave the opening address, speaking about how trafficking is defined in national and international law.
* Dr Yousef Aldaradkeh then conducted a session on the legal distinction between trafficking and the smuggling of people.
* Judge Ashraf Alhabashneh addressed the definition of trafficking including its historical context and practical examples of its use.
* Dr Almousa concluded the second day by presenting real cases of trafficking in Jordan for discussion.
The final day of the training sought to equip participants with knowledge of how to use national and international law to protect the rights of migrants and trafficking victims in practice.
* Dr Almousa looked at examples of how legislation was used in different countries.
* Dr Aldaradkeh gave an address on interview techniques for trafficking victims. He went on to speak on the topic of victim identification and treatment in practice.
* Finally Tamkeen director Linda Alkalash addressed the participants on the role of civil society in combating trafficking and the mistreatment of migrants and on the work of Tamkeen in this regard.
